This is how much you would know about local news if you read the Eagle & Times. With 90% of the news and advertising coming from Coronado and not Imperial Beach, The Eagle & Times refuses to print agenda's for city council meetings prior to the meetings. In light of the large amounts of city money that go to publish notices in the legally adjudiated newspaper (Eagle Times), it's editor and publisher Dean Eckenroth continues to conspire with City Staff and perpetrates a fraud on the public by neither informing them of events in a timely manner or fufilling it's responsibility as the legally adjudicated newspaper

VIOLATES ADJUDICATED NEWSPAPER REQUIRMENTS
By releasing public notices on Fridays, the City Manager, City Clerk and Publisher of the Eagle Times all know that notice of the meeting won’t be published and on the streets until after the meeting has occurred! This writer has brought this to the attention of the City Council, City Manager , City Attorney and City Clerk and was one of the topics of my presentation and public comments to the Council January 2008 . The other was concerning access to the video feed from the public camera placed in Council Chambers several years ago. Council, Staff and the Publisher have been put on notice previously that this method of posting public meetings obfiscates the public’s knowledge prior to the event.

She knows it won’t get printed in the Sun or Eagle Times until after the meeting! The Union Tribune will post a small notice and that’s it! All the public notice City Council and City Staff want you to have. Meetings move faster and smoother without public input or opposition present!
Don’t think they don’t schedule these sneaky workshops at 9:00 am on a workday for no reason? They know that most people who have a job cannot posibly attend or participate in meetings held at this time on a week day. They know that…..and they schedule by it !
These are not innocent mistakes which cause the public not to be informed of government action and public meetings in a timely manner. This is a conspiracy of all the aforementioned parties to keep the public in the dark while skirting the letter of the law.
Once again I call the City Manager’s attention to the schedule of publication and request that either the Eagle and Times change their publication schedule, the clerk modify the time of posting of public meetings, so that the spirit of the Brown Act will also be respected by giving the public propper advance notice of public meetings. While the current method of posting public meetings is obviously not working in the spirit of the Brown Act, it might be following the letter of the law just enough that they can continue to get away with it.
I urge Mayor Janney, Councilwoman Bragg or Councilperson King to raise this issue and question whether or not the Eagle & Times should be the legally adjudicated newspaper or not? No further City money should be spent on advertising in the Eagle & Times unless it can be published in a timely manner (prior to public hearings being posted therein).

I have republished this story because I spoke during public comments ata recent workshop to address this very same issue. It has been ignored by the City Council for a very long time because they actually don’t want the public to know what they are doing, lest the council chambers be filled with angry citizens every other Wednesday evening!
Time to set the TVO and miss Southpark. Time to fill out a speakers slip. If you are not registered to vote or have not signed or facilitated a recalll petition, then get registered. If you don’t know how, write us and someone will assist you. The only way to change the current predator RDA Secret Government is to Recall it’s leaders who also wear City Council and City Staff Hats.
We’ve been able to figure out they don’t listen….and…..they don’t care! Vote them out of office. Where they really belong is in jail !

(Editor's Note) Four years ago when I started this website, I purchased display advertising in the Eagle and Times. That is why my name is on Guy's mailing list. What the lady writing this letter to everyone in Guy's former address book is that: When Guy and Dean Eckenroth realized that my website was slanted anti-incumbent , they cancelled by display contract for a full page color the weekend before the election. I saw that as censorship against my website and it proved to me that the local Eagle Times was a loyal tool of the IBCC PAC, just as the Union Tribune has been for so many years.
I have accused the Eagle Times and it's reporters for reporting pure fiction and spin instead of news for years! I have challenged the legality of their being the "Adjudicated Newspaper" for public notices when they have conspired with the City Clerk to NOT PUBLISH PUBLIC NOTICES IN A TIMELY MANNER and in the sprit of the Bown Act , Public Meetings Notification Law.
I accused the Eagle Times of spending the first 3 months of 2009, spinning a re-constructed history of 2008 Imperial Beach politics.

Obviously the young lady who sent me this letter is new on the job and is not aware of my relationship with the Eagle and Times. The last time I spoke with "Guy", he canceled my display advertising the week before an election and hung up the phone on me.
I will however enquire sometime soon, to see whether the Eagle and Times would sell me display advertising again, or whether Dean Eckenroth would fire this young lady first?

Another Phoney Baloney Group gives another phoney baloney award to incumbent politicians and their developer friends for mass abuse and waste of taxpayer money. Imperial Beach's two blocks of pork can't be criticized...so let's give them a phoney award from a phoney group started by the same people who wasted the money on the project to begin with. Nothing like having your own paid cheerleaders!
It's almost like running a wildlife sanctuary in a sewer and getting an award from a country that is hostile to the United States (IRAN) and then braging about your award you got from the Ramsar Convention.
It's like having someone from the bike trail coalition praise the destruction of the historic railroad right of way under asphalt as a great accomplishment and then take credit for all the beautiful vistas along the route of your bike trail........that was a railroad.
Giving credit where credit is due is fine. Having your own faux group so you can get an award when your performance has actually been mediocre if not completely wasteful or untruthful is propaganda.
So who ever heard of the Golden Footprint Award before today? The Golden Douschebags ....of course!
